    This position is responsible for recommending, developing and implementing a Plant Quality System to ensure process and product quality consistency with corporate objectives. This position directs the daily operations of the Technical Services function through quality leadership to uphold Company policies, formulas, specifications and regulatory requirements as well as ensures that all finished product meets product quality as well as Safe Quality Food standards. Quality Assurance Manager will report directly to the Plant Manager.

    Responsibilities

    • Develop and maintain plant quality system in compliance with the Corporate Quality Policy.
    • In the event of Quality Assurance Managers absence, first shift Quality Assurance Supervisor will assume responsibilities.
    • Leads the food safety, sanitation, technical services and laboratory functions on all shifts.
    • Maintains a safe working environment.
    • Ensures compliance to state, federal, and local regulations.
    • Assures efficient and accurate testing, reporting, and monitoring of product safety and quality.
    • Develop and facilitate internal audits to determine/assess compliance to company policy and regulatory requirements.
    • Maintains systems for checking and verifying process compliance, including but not limited to SPC, HACCP, Quality Systems, Formula Control to provide production departments with tools necessary for daily operations.
    • Lead development and implementation of plant GMP, Hygiene and Sanitation programs.
    • Ensures effective food safety and quality training for plant team members and quality assurance staff.
    • Advises the Plant Management Team on quality trends within the process and recommends appropriate corrective action.
    • Prepares the annual operating budget for the Quality Assurance department.
    • Facilitates the development of analytical methods and sampling procedures as required.
    • Advises the Plant Management Team on matters of quality, process instruction, formulas, specifications and protocol requirements as may be required to promote high product quality standard.
    • Develop and facilitate internal audits to determine satisfactory performance of packaging components and the practice of sound warehousing procedures as they affect product quality.

     Strong interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work in a matrix organization.

    • Strong analytical skills using tools such as statistics, downtime tracking, mechanical history, project planning, etc. to identify opportunity areas
    • Creative/analytical problem solving skills and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems.
    • Team building skills and experience.
    • Microsoft office skills such as PowerPoint, Project Manager, Excel and Word.
    • Demonstrated experience in managing plant sanitation programs.
    • Demonstrated experience of effective leadership working closely with USDA.

     

    Education:

    • BS required. BS in Food Science or related discipline such as chemistry, biology or microbiology is preferred.

     

    Experience:

    • Ten years or more of all plant or plant and corporate quality assurance required. Operations management experience is preferred.

     

    Skills / Proficiencies:

    • Has worked in a manufacturing environment to identify continuous improvement projects.
    • Solid systems understanding and ability to identify improvements needed.
    • Hands on management style and solid communication ability.
    • Able to effectively interface within all levels of the organization.
    • Solid listening/communication skills
    • Change management.
    • Ability to use innovative approaches to resolve complex problems.
    • Proficient in PowerPoint, Project Manager, Excel and Word.
    • Ability to analyze data and information, and to make effective and timely decisions.
    • Demonstrated experience of effective leadership working closely with USDA.
