    The Manager Food Safety/QA for External Manufacturing is accountable for assuring the food safety and quality assurance programs for External Manufacturing (EM). This will include suppliers to the EM’s as well as the actual production facilities. Additionally the Manager FS/QA EM serves as key contact for communications ongoing with regards to quality and food safety. The Manager participates in and is a primary partner in supplier and EM approvals as well as startups and plant tests. This individual will support all activities related to new and existing production. The Manager works collaboratively with Procurement, Purchasing and Product Development with regards to new and existing products produced at EM’s. The Manager maintains information within PFI systems for assigned EM’s.



    • Conducts first party audits; reviews and appraisals for EM’s and certain suppliers in accordance with Pinnacle Foods policy and procedures 
    • Accountable to provide direct support to EM’s for startups and new product production by establishing food safety and quality assurance programs aligned to Pinnacle Foods EM management systems
    • Assures ongoing compliance with food safety and quality assurance standards
    • Provides assistance and support for continuous improvement of both quality and costs
    • Maintains a strong working relationship with assigned EM’s
    • Establishes and maintains documentation relevant to food safety and quality for assigned EM’s.
    • Supports supply chain activities related to EM’s as necessary
    • Provide training, education and support as requested for food safety, quality assurance and regulatory compliance to EM’s



    • Minimum of five (5) years of experience managing plant quality assurance programs, or a combination of supervising or managing plant level food safety and food quality assurance programs and working with corporate quality assurance programs, required
    • Good Manufacturing and Sanitation Practices experience required
    • SQF and HACCP/FSMA Food Safety Plan experience required 
    • Experience with food manufacturing regulations (FDA and USDA) required
    • Demonstrated “hands on” management experience
    • Experience working with and leading diverse and cross functional teams
    • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma knowledge, a plus
    • Strong interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to effectively communicate throughout all levels of the organization
    • Strategic leadership skills
    • Ability to train, coach and mentor staff
    • Ability to effectively influence seniors, peers, and subordinates
    • Auditing skills
    • Knowledge of food microbiology
    • Ability to use innovative approaches to resolve complex problems
    • Strong computer skills, including a proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and Word
    • Ability to analyze data and information, and to make effective and timely decisions. Ability to work with others to identify opportunities
    • Ability to work under pressure and to react to situations with a strong sense of urgency
    • Solid problem solving, project management, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
    • Ability to listen and consider all ideas while working in a team environment
    • Managing and budgeting; plan on budget spending and maintain waste elimination posture
    • Ability to develop a high performing team



    • Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science or a related discipline such as Chemistry, Biology or Microbiology, required


    • There is a 75% travel requirement for the position
