    SCOPE OF POSITION:


    This position utilizes education and personal expertise to competently perform microbiological testing and assist with technical issues, while producing reliable, accurate, and timely results. This position reports to the Cherry Hill Laboratory Manager or the Laboratory Supervisor.

    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Carry out basic and advanced microbiological testing per Pinnacle Foods’ standardized test methodologies including, but not limited to, PCR, sample preparation, media preparation, plating, autoclaving, challenge studies and routine laboratory tasks (housekeeping)
    • Generate professional, accurate, and timely results
    • Conduct all quality control related activities including, but not limited to equipment maintenance
    • Assist the Laboratory Manager with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of microbiological policies, procedures, and good laboratory practices
    • Stay current with pertinent scientific literature and emerging technologies, and make recommendations for the establishment of new methodologies to improve testing effectiveness and efficiency
    • Provide technical support to Pinnacle Foods manufacturing facilities, including effective resolution of microbiological issues
    • Make detailed observations, document results, and perform data analysis (as needed)
    • Plan and carry out special projects as requested by the Laboratory Manager, Supervisor and/or Director of Food Safety
    • Assist the Laboratory Manager with inventory controls and supplies ordering
    • Maintain a safe work environment
    • Assist with updating policies, procedures and records as needed

    Qualifications

    SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

    • Strong background in microbiological principles and applications
    • Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to work independently and across functions
    • Creative/analytical problem solving skills and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems
    • Good organizational skills
    • One (1) or more years of experience in a microbiological laboratory setting
    • Analytical and microbiological principles and test procedures 
    • Computer literate (knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Good organizational skills
    • Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP’s)
    • Ability to work with little supervision
    • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written)
    • Ability to demonstrate proper aseptic technique
    • Able to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner; ability to be flexible with shifting priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
    • Team Oriented
    • Possess strong verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to lift at least 35 pounds and stand for long periods of time
    • Must be flexible with shifts as needed, may require some weekend work


    EDUCATION:

    • BS in Microbiology, Biology, or related sciences required


    TRAVEL:


    There is a 15% travel requirement for this position
