    As part of Packaging R&D, the Associate Packaging Engineer will lead packaging development programs from concept to commercialization that meets the requirements of operations, distribution, marketing and sales. Primary focus will be in support of our Boulder Brands brand portfolio (Evol, Udi’s, Glutino, Earth Balance, and Gardein). 




    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following; other duties may be assigned

    • Align with Supervisor on project scope and deliverables Identify and develop new packaging components that support existing and future category initiatives
    • Work closely with packaging suppliers to meet project needs
    • Coordinate and perform packaging line trials at company owned and contract manufacturing locations as needed
    • Develop and manage timelines for all packaging projects
    • Work closely with equipment vendors to ensure packaging machinability
    • Work closely with Product Development to ensure that key product requirements are identified and delivered
    • Identify, conduct and analyze package performance testing on materials and components
    • Perform package stability testing where appropriate
    • Initiate distribution testing where applicable
    • Perform field inspections to evaluate storage and transportation damage
    • Work with external package testing labs as appropriate
    • Develop packaging specifications for new and/or existing products
    • Prepare and input packaging information into Sales Sheets
    • Create “Bill of Materials” for new and existing products
    • Develop and maintain current and accurate packaging specifications for all products
    • Actively participate in multiple cross-functional project teams
    • Serve as the Packaging “Go To” person & partner with cross-functions
    • Lead/participate on productivity teams that contribute to overall company cost saving objects

    • 1-3 years of packaging experience within a corporate R&D or innovation department, food experience is desired, but not required
    • Proficient in the use of MS Office software including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
    • Experience with CAPE, Adobe Illustrator and CAD software
    • Good knowledge base on packaging materials, formats, and equipment
    • Strong project management, problem solving and analytical skills
    • Excellent communication skills (both written and oral)
    • Ability to interact with all company functions including R&D, Marketing, Purchasing and Operations
    • Capable of managing multiple projects while still meeting critical project milestones
    • Ability to make sound decisions based on factual data, past experience and scientific reasoning




    A Bachelor's degree in packaging engineering or equivalent is required






    Position may require up to 30 - 40% travel
