    Scope of Position:

    The Associate Manager Category Leadership will work collaboratively with Category Leadership and Sales leaders on the MidWest Region grocery teams to provide actionable consumer and category insights that allow us to excel in the categories in which we compete.  The individual will utilize tools such as IRI and customer POS data to develop customized presentations and provide day to day insights that support executable customer selling strategies, especially as it relates to shelving, merchandising, assortment, and retail pricing (SMART) objectives.


    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Essential duties and responsibilities include the following; other duties may be assigned.

    • Provide the strategic vision and direction for category management and shopper insights for the MidWestern Region Grocery Customer Team.
    • Develop and present strategic category management insights and selling stories that meet retailer objectives, while supporting the selling initiatives, growth and share objectives of Pinnacle Foods.
    • Identify, measure and quantify marketplace trends and opportunities using tools such as IRI and customer POS data (EYC). Present and share strategic insights with the Business Units, Trade Marketing, retail customers and internal selling organization. 
    • Collaborate with Trade Marketing, brand marketing, market research, culinary, Sales leaders and Internal/Field based Category Managers to share best practices.
    • Utilize IRI, ShopperSights, panel data and other consumer centric data tools to build category reviews, customized and compelling selling stories, and new item presentations, for our brands both on an everyday and seasonal basis.
    • Provide post promotional analysis for key events (ie. Lent, Fall Bake, Q4 Holiday season) to include selling highlights, opportunities, price point effectiveness and recommendations for improvement.
    • Proactively develop insights to aid Sales in selling expanded distribution, gap fill opportunities, improved shelf merchandising, optimal assortment recommendations and new promotional opportunities for our brands.
    • Run monthly customer reporting for specific categories as requested/necessary by account
    • Develop ad hoc reports as necessary to support the development of the business.
    • Leadership and management of downstream broker partners to ensure organizational goals, opportunities, and priorities are effectively prioritized, and executed against.
    • Category Captaincy for Target Team including Planogram building aligned to Category Management Insights and Target’s Strategic Priorities


    Skills & Qualifications:

    • 4-6 years professional category management leadership experience within CPG industry, preferably in food manufacturing. MidWest Coast grocery customer experience preferred. (IE, SuperValu, Target, HyVee, Schnucks, etc)
    • Adaptable to changing circumstances
    • Strategic thinker, able to articulate vision clearly and effectively.
    • Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication and analytical skills.
    • Solid project management skills; ability to lead category review process with sales and internal teams to meet deadlines
    • Comfortable presenting ideas and concepts to groups of varying levels internally within Pinnacle and externally across the retail customer organization.
    • Ability to contribute, influence and work effectively in a cross-functional matrix environment
    • Entrepreneurial spirit – independent thinker, decisive, nimble, and proactive.
    • Technical skills: highly skilled in Excel and Power Point.  Database knowledge is a plus.  Strong knowledge and experience with Syndicated data and customer POS sources (IRI, IRI Panel, IRI ShopperSights, AP, AP Pro, EYC, Spectra, 84.51 Loyalty Data)
    • ProSpace experience preferred.
    • Ability to work independently, multi-task and prioritize accordingly under pressure.
    • Experience working with, leading, and managing broker partner teams preferred.


    • Bachelor’s Degree, MBA is a plus
