    This position is located in Algona, Washington at our Tim's Cascade Snacks location.

    Responsibilities

     SCOPE OF POSITION:

    This position assists the Quality Assurance Manager in the development and administration of the Algona, Washington plant’s Quality System, including its policies and procedures, to ensure product quality and product safety consistent with corporate objectives. This position is responsible for performing quality system-related tasks, including data analysis, tracking and maintenance of the internal self-inspection (audit) program, Hold-and-Release and microbiological programs. Any individual in this position will also be cross-trained to perform the duties of a Quality Assurance Technician, including raw material receiving and testing, in process testing, and finished product testing, document review, formulation, auditing, project work, and scheduling. This position requires an individual with a high level of analytical, technical and communication skills. This position may require working variable shifts.

    Qualifications

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Contribute to the team environment by working well with others in and outside of the department. Support the QA department throughout the facility.
    • Adhere to safe working practices at all times. Comply with basic plant safety requirements, GMP, and applicable plant rules and procedures at all times. Note: this position requires working with chemicals.
    • Under the supervision of the QA Manager, assure facility compliance to corporate, regulatory and best industry quality, GMP, and sanitation standards.
    • Assist the QA Manager in the development and implementation of plant Quality System and Sanitation policies and procedures.
    • HACCP certified required.
    • Acquire or become SQF 2000 practitioner certified.  
    • Assist in maintaining the plant’s Quality System Manuals to assure that all policies and procedures are current and effective, and that corporate quality requirements are achieved.
    • Coordinate and maintain quality data collection, charting, trending, and reporting projects.  
    • Coordinate the Hold and Release program including hold notifications and dispositions; held stock reconciliations and mock ingredient and finished product withdrawal exercises.
    • Procure and maintain an adequate supply of laboratory supplies within departmental budgeting requirements.
    • Oversee all internal GMP self-assessment processes.
    • Assist management with third party audits and Corporate Quality Assurance Audits.
    • Assist in providing technical assistance resources to production including plant trials, GMP, GSP, and ingredient and product wholesomeness.  
    • Assist with reviewing daily production documentation for completeness and accuracy (i.e. batch sheets, packaging technician records, allergen records, and HACCP records).      
    • Assist in the maintenance of and compliance to the plant’s HACCP/HARPC program including preparing of samples & data, facilitating meetings; CCP compliance monitoring; meeting notes distributions and documentation of corrective actions.  
    • Conduct quality training as required for QA staff and all plant personnel.  
    • Assist in the evaluation of consumer complaints and corrective action implementations.      
    • Ensure documentation and filing of non-conformances (including monthly tracking report).
    • Assist with maintaining formulation records, including batch sheet and recipe card development.  
    • Assist in monitoring programs including but not limited to finish product testing; sanitation effectiveness verification; environmental and pathogen monitoring.        
    • Maintain the organoleptic monitoring program.          
    • Assist Product Development and management with plant trial requests.  
    • Cross-train with QA Technicians to maintain proficiency with daily quality monitoring tasks.       
    • Complete raw material receiving, document reviews, etc. in the absence of the QA Technician.        
    • Assist with the preparation of routine (weekly/monthly) and non-routine quality reports.
    • Participate in training programs as assigned
    • Remain current on all procedures and procedural changes that are applicable to the position.
    • Immediately report food safety and food quality issues to QA Manager, or other member(s) of management with authority to act upon them.
    • Perform other duties incidental to the position as assigned.

    • Strong math skills as they apply to data development, collection, and analysis.
    • Working knowledge of statistics.
    • Recognition and adherence to Company policies.
    • High level of integrity with ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
    • Solid organization skills, project management skills and ability to generate routine and non-routine reports.
    • Lifting requirements will include lifting up to 50 pounds.

    SKILLS/PROFICIENCIES:.

     

    • Solid computer skills, including working knowledge of Microsoft programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
    • HACCP certified required.

     

    EXPERIENCE:

     

    • Two years’ experience in a food manufacturing facility working with food Quality Assurance systems and/or equivalent combination of experience and education.

    EDUCATION:

     

    • Degree in food science or related discipline such as chemistry, biology or microbiology, preferred.
