    SCOPE OF POSITION:


    This position reports to the Senior Director of Food Safety and QA and assists with the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Pinnacle Foods’ Microbiological programs. The position utilizes personal experience and expertise in food Microbiology to provide strategic leadership and tactical support to innovation, commercialization, and supply chain operations. The position routinely communicates with and advises Senior Management.



    Responsibilities

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


    • Assist with development and effective implementation of all microbiological policies, procedures, and specifications
    • Stay current with pertinent scientific literature and emerging technologies and make recommendations for the establishment of new methodologies to detect, enumerate and identify microorganisms of concern
    • Provide microbiological risk assessment information and risk management strategies in support of innovation, commercialization, productivity, and internal and external manufacturing
    • Proactively identify emerging microbiological issues and develop and implement action plans to effectively investigate and respond
    • Oversee the network’s environmental monitoring and finished product testing programs
    • Ensure effective data tracking and trending processes are in place to identify and resolve issues
    • Provide technical support to manufacturing in the areas of Good Microbiological Laboratory Practices, lab staffing, training, and auditing
    • Carry out Food Safety and Microbiology process and product design risk assessments
    • Assist with risk-based dispositions for microbiological related product holds
    • Carry out and document microbiological validations
    • Review and approve cook validation protocols, test results, and food safety package labeling
    • Assist the Central Microbiological Laboratory in special projects such as DOE, predictive modeling, and physical challenge studies
    • Support organizational growth and expansion including key projects and integration related activities
    • Plan and execute special projects as requested by the Senior Director of Food Safety and Quality Assurance

    Qualifications

    QUALIFICATIONS:


    • Ability to travel approximately 40%
    • Extensive technical knowledge and experience in food safety and food microbiology principles and test methods
    • Strong interpersonal communication skills with a demonstrated ability to effectively work cross-functionally at all managerial levels, and with external contacts
    • Ability to collect and analyze data using statistical methodologies
    • Experienced in preparing reports and presenting technical, scientific data to a variety of audiences
    • Strong analytical problem solving skills with the ability to effectively collaborate and use creative and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems
    • Team building/team leadership skills
    • Strategic change leadership skills

     

    EDUCATION:

     

    • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or Microbiology required
    • Master’s degree or better in Microbiology preferred

     

    EXPERIENCE:


    • Minimum of 7 years industry experience in food safety and microbiology
    • FDA and USDA food regulatory experience
    • Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA)
