    The Director External Manufacturing is a mid-level, hands on executive who is viewed as a key member of the Manufacturing Leadership team and, by extension, the Supply Chain Leadership team. The Director, External Manufacturing is responsible for direct leadership of all areas related to External Manufacturing across our Portfolio of Brands.

    The Director External Manufacturing will:

    • Assist in creation and own the execution of the strategy to impact top and bottom line benefits to the entire organization.
    • Provide a critical link with suppliers and the rest of the Supply Chain, Sales and the Marketing category teams.
    • Focus on Supplier Relationship Management
    • Implement, monitor and refine the processes and systems used to assure that our external partners are delivering our business expectations; supporting innovation.
    • Partner with brand teams and R&D in the management of commercialized products at external suppliers; delivering productivity, optimizing our current portfolio, supporting repatriation into current manufacturing base, and driving cost improvement at the partner sites.
    • Additionally, the Director of External Manufacturing may be asked to support the company’s acquisition strategy by taking part in applicable due diligence of new brands and organizations within their assigned Business Unit.



    • This role must work cross functionally to manage tradeoffs and support growth while ensuring quality, cost and service are not compromised.
    • Rationalize and segment the current portfolio of external manufacturers to provide better quality and service to the organization and drive cost productivity.
    • Develop and execute External Manufacturers’ supplier relationship management programs to control costs, manage performance, assure customer service needs are met as well as drive productivity and innovation in a manner which quickly drives value to the organization.
    • Define, standardize, implement and enforce the supplier relationship management processes, metrics and systems to improve communication and thereby the results of the organization.
    • Lead annual strategic productivity initiatives at assigned vendor locations that generate cost savings sufficient to offset inflation.
    • Execute solutions and reporting in support of External Manufacturing initiatives and the established supply chain service, productivity, and cost reduction goals.
    • Facilitate success through leadership of cross functional project teams as a resource driving business improvement projects to completion within established processes and timelines. 
    • Work closely as a liaison with the Planning organization and other Supply Chain disciplines to determine capacity requirements and constraints in relation to sales demand forecasts, new product offerings, promotional events, capital projects and inventory assumptions related to External Manufacturing. This will include active management of raw material and finished goods inventory levels throughout the contract manufacturing network in an effort to reduce obsolete material exposure.
    • Build successful relationships with both internal and external stakeholders in order to encourage teamwork towards organizational goals throughout the manufacturing network.
    • Be able to benchmark performance between various suppliers and identify opportunities for improvement.



    • Eight to ten years of progressive CPG Food or Beverage experience, preferably in Manufacturing Operations
    • Supply Chain leadership experience for a large, sophisticated manufacturing company, most likely in the CPG Food or Beverage industries, who has a deep technical experience in the External Manufacturing area, and must demonstrate past experience at managing this function.
    • Successful management of a broad range of skill sets across the supply chain. Strong ability to manage External providers as well as a demonstrated competence of working to produce results across all aspects of the business including Finance, Commercialization, Quality & Marketing
    • Exposure and experience in the end-to-end supply chain with some planning experience.
    • Leading and managing teams; demonstrated capability in developing talent and implementing new processes with an emphasis on driving organizational change.
    • Proven track record executing major projects with External providers.
    • Be the “go to” resource with an in depth understanding of manufacturing, quality, and planning.
    • Confident leader, results oriented and solution driven with strong supply chain strategy acumen.
    • Ability to influence, collaborate and interact within all levels of the internal organization as well as external vendors / suppliers.
    • Excellent business acumen and strong analytical skills.
    • High potential leader with outstanding people skills and organization savvy.
    • Comfortable in a hands-on and accountable culture run in a lean manner without a large staff.
    • Possess integrity, high intelligence and excellent communication skills (both written and oral), with the ability to facilitate meetings and drive issue resolution.
    • High level of adaptability and problem solving skills.
    • Comfortable working in a fast paced environment.
    • Comfortable in dealing with ambiguity and change of direction in a fast moving, results oriented environment.


    • Bachelor’s degree, required.
    • MBA or graduate-level management degree, preferred.


    • 50% travel or more is required.
