    The Transportation Planner is responsible for the administration of the carrier management function by maintaining carrier service and performance metrics as set by the organization’s goals and objectives. This position is responsible for the day to day operations and maximizing the efficiency of carrier’s service through the use of a transportation management system (TMS). The Planner will be responsible for the management of relationships with the current carrier base to meet customer service demands. This individual will also look for and analyze new opportunities that will enhance the logistics network.




    • Responsible for tracking all freight through the delivery process from origin to final delivery.
    • Accountable for all service KPI’s; Perform analysis on performance trends
    • Resolve chronic service and capacity issues; ensure PFG carriers are performing to expectations and maintain corrective action plans for those that are not. Proactively identify problems and swiftly work with senior management to implement the appropriate solution.
    • Identify opportunities for freight reductions. Recommend improvements to existing or planned logistics processes. Determine the most economical modes of transportation.
    • Monitor industry standards, trends, or practices to identify developments in logistics planning or execution.
    • Evaluate shipments, consolidate loads, and select most cost effective method of delivery.
    • Prepare reports on logistics performances capturing all KPI measures. Provide ongoing analysis in areas such as transportation cost, carrier performance and CWT. Enhance the development of our performance metrics.
    • Practical hands-on project implementation, program management, or strategic performance management experience a plus.
    • An understanding of Motor Carrier Contracts and the acquisition process.
    • The ability to take a large volume of data and then analyze trends and produce a result.
    • Review procedures, such as distribution or inventory management, to ensure maximum weight efficiency and minimum cost are being obtained.
    • Be the liaison between the transportation department and other internal departments.
    • Need to work independently and handle multiple projects in the absence of detailed instruction.
    • Working in conjunction with the operations manager, to contain rate and accessorial charges.
    • He/she will insure that the plan is in accordance with all the company's strategies, goals, objectives, and procedures while meeting its financial commitments.
    • Manage the primary activities of the deployment and delivery cycle including: planning (load building and mode/carrier selection), execution (tendering, track trace and scheduling), and reporting (performance to budget, compliance).




    • Proficiency in the use of MS Office software including Excel, Word.
    • Transportation Management System experience a plus

    • BS/BA in Business, Supply Chain/Logistics, or Engineering and/or equivalent work experience
