SCOPE OF POSITION:

The Director of Commodities Price Risk Management is a senior leader responsible for the development and execution of price risk management strategies across Cocoa, Grains, Sweeteners, Oils, Protein, Energy, and Packaging.  He/She ensures that hedging and commodity coverage strategies bring together commodity–to-retail pass through analysis and fundamental commodity price forecasts.  Additionally, this leader will seek to expand the scope of risk management where needed and ensure alignment with all governance processes. 

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct individual commodity “deep dives,” using fundamental and technical analysis to establish price forecasts that will ultimately feed our decision making
  • Partner with sales leadership to conduct commodity cost to retail price analysis and determine optimal length of coverage to protect margins
  • Formulate and communicate price risk management strategies to Senior Leadership to ensure business alignment and sign-on of hedging strategies
  • Execute approved risk management strategies with futures, forward contracts, and other risk management tools to assist the business teams in managing their cost base (includes reporting, accounting, systems, etc).
  • Define and expand our toolbox and hedge-able portfolio to increase hedging capabilities in line with overall governance and accounting standards
  • Support TCO and cost component modeling to driving predictability and savings

Qualifications

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • The successful candidate will have extensive experience and expertise in Price Risk Management, preferably in energy or agricultural markets within the Food industry.
  • 8 to 10 years of food industry experience necessary to understand thoroughly the connection between commodity markets, ingredient input costs and retail pricing
  • Strong fundamental and technical analytical skills and comfortable working in a fast paced environment
  • Confident leader, results oriented and solution driven with a solid ability to self-manage and lead change
  • Ability to influence, collaborate and interact across many functions of the business including Finance, Sales, Commercialization, and Supply Chain
  • Experience with Strategic sourcing process, including strategy development and implementation and leading contract negotiations
  • Comfortable creating performance reporting tools, identifying performance metrics and developing scorecards to track progress
  • Focus on priorities and able to manage resources to maximize efficiency
  • Comfortable in dealing with ambiguity and change of direction

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor Degree in Agricultural Economics/Finance or other related field is required, Master Degree is preferred.

 

TRAVEL:

  • Up to 20%, based on business need.
