SCOPE OF POSITION:

Maintain compliance to internal labeling standards and applicable regulations for all products. Interprets labeling regulations and guidance and applies to labeling to best represent products.  Develop procedures and policies to ensure regulatory compliance.  Will serve as leader for cross functional teams for regulatory and agency driven initiatives and will provide technical guidance to cross functional teams.       

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and review ingredient statements, nutritional labels and artwork ensuring regulatory compliance-15%
  • Provide regulatory support to manufacturing, marketing, quality, research & development, sales, customer service, supplier’s, vendors, export customers and project teams as needed -35%
  • Provides structured guidance to development teams and business partners -20%
  • Draft department policy and protocols; support corporate policy development, update organization on agency and regulatory changes – 20%
  • Supports onboarding of new employees and provides ad hoc training to peers -5%
  • Represent regulatory and quality in cross functional project teams and lead cross functional initiatives -5%
  • Knowledge of Nutrient Content Claims and Health Claims, and usage of factual statements; knows the rules and requirements surrounding product claims
  • Stays current on Regulatory activities and changes impacting our Brands
  • Other activities as needed to support Department/Corporate initiatives

Qualifications

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Strong working knowledge of USDA, FDA, CFIA, Export Regulations and resources
  • Progressive regulatory experience; USDA and FDA
  • Strong working knowledge of Export; and more importantly CFIA Regulations
  • Up to date with current on Government and State Regulatory changes impacting our business
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Possess strong organizational and critical thinking skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Demonstrates leadership and adaptability to change
  • Able to handle multiple tasks in a timely manner; ability to be flexible with shifting priorities
  • Team Oriented, yet self-motivate
  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree (Nutrition, Food Science, Food Chemistry, Microbiology or Processing Preferred)

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • No formal responsibilities, but will serve as a Mentor to Regulatory Specialists.
