Responsible for sanitation activities and sanitation employees in a food manufacturing environment including equipment cleaning during scheduled line downtime, execution of Master Sanitation and inspection programs, 24/7 facility cleaning, pest control, and plant regulatory and food safety compliance programs for sanitation. This position is responsible for ownership of the sanitation program at the Florence Street and Granola facilities.


  • Directly supervises sanitation activities to ensure compliance to Sanitation Procedures and regulatory requirements (FDA) within the plant.
  • Meets strategic business needs by being involved in cross-functional teams within the plant to drive sanitation knowledge and improvement.
  • Maintains, develops and enhances the full Master cleaning program, schedules, extended run validations, and wholesale continuous improvement leadership as relates to sanitation, IPM, and chemical programs.
  • Determines resources and provides technical guidance and leadership to sanitation personnel.
  • Advises management on effectiveness of routine plant sanitation and cleaning programs.
  • Guides plants during special plant sanitation issues including microbiological and environmental control.
  • Ensures full implementation and plant follow up of all environmental and microbiological programs to detect and eliminate sources of contamination.
  • Provides sanitary design recommendations for new and existing equipment and modification/installation of existing/new equipment.
  • Participates in all engineering projects to ensure sanitary design aspects of the project and review/approve project for compliance with sanitary design objectives.
  • Maintains cost effective programs and practices within the plant sanitation program.
  • Maintains all required records/documentation for the sanitation program.
  • Works with external sanitation vendors to improve sanitation performance and costs.
  • Tracks and reports key metrics to measure effectiveness.
  • Proactively utilizes process metrics and experience to prevent problems that could affect product quality and safety.
  • Investigates sanitation issues, which are resulting in product contamination, reduced shelf-life, or customer rejection of products.


Education and/or Experience:  

  • B.S. Degree, or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of food manufacturing environment in sanitation leadership roles.
  • Excellent knowledge of applicable FDA, HACCP, and SQF requirements.
  • Excellent knowledge of sanitary design, sanitation and pest management in food processing.
  • Excellent knowledge of food manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent understanding of food safety.
  • Demonstrated previous leadership and relationship building skills.
  • Experience with government regulatory requirements in the processing of food.
  • Bi-lingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Understanding of the fundamentals of a regulatory compliant sanitation system.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to create/review/update processes/procedures.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel and Word.
  • Excellent understanding of microbiological organisms and their impact on process design, sanitary design and sanitation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have the ability to work in a wet environment, stand on feet for 8-10 hour shift, +40 lb lifting, climbing, crouching, lifting, using cleaning chemicals and high pressure water gun.
