Responsibilities

 

SCOPE OF POSITION:

To develop and implement sustained system-wide Continuous Improvement strategies that remove waste in processes which favorably impact Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost resulting in the company achieving annual business goals.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Lead Kaizen events composed of cross-functional teams with a sense of urgency by completing the following
  • Identifying the opportunity based on strategic goals
  • Gathering the data to understand the potential favorable impact to metrics
  • Conducting prework needed to be prepared for the event
  • Lead the event in a fast paced environment working the hours required to meet the objectives
  • Conducting sustainment activities in following weeks to ensure goals are met
  • Manage cost savings projects that directly impact material yield, operational uptime and labor productivity by means of effective detailed project management
  • Implement 5S, SMED and Standard Work projects
  • Assist Operations team with root cause countermeasures resulting from daily management
  • Identify and resolve process waste and constraints

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work in a matrix organization.
  • Intense desire to improve processes at the point of impact on the production floor.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams to implement cost savings programs across plant.
  • Strong analytical ability using tools such as 8 waste analysis, statistics, downtime tracking, mechanical history and project planning to identify opportunity areas.
  • Creative in problem solving and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems.
  • Ability to quickly come up to speed on complex production processes and work with others to identify areas of opportunity with data.
  • Ability to teach/coach CI concepts throughout the plant
  • Effective ability to use lean problem solving tools such as 5Why, 8D, A3 and root cause countermeasures
  • Experience leading and being a team member using the following lean tools, standard work, SMED, 5S, value stream mapping and transactional process improvement.
  • Strong analytical ability using tools such as 8 waste analysis, statistics, downtime tracking, mechanical history and project planning to identify opportunity areas.
  • Creative in problem solving and innovative approaches to resolve complex problems.

EDUCATION:

 

BS in Engineering

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

 

  • 5+ years of lean/CI experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Past experience in leading week long kaizen events in the areas of 5S, standard work, visual management, daily management, SMED and OEE gap closure.
  • 6 Sigma certification preferred
  • Maintenance/manufacturing/engineering/QA/QS experience preferred
  • Food manufacturing experience preferred

 

 

SKILLS/PROFICIENCIES:

 

  • Ability to use innovative approaches to resolve complex problems
  • Ability to analyze data and information, and to make effective and timely decisions. Ability to work with others to identify opportunities.
  • Solid problem solving, project management, multi-tasking and prioritization skills.
  • Solid systems understanding and ability to identify improvements needed.
  • Desire to spend the time required, effort needed and the tenacity to do what it is necessary to meet objectives.
  • Hands on style and solid communication ability.
  • Able to effectively interface within all levels of the organization.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency with an intense focus in Excel
  • Minitab proficiency
